Ingredients
- 6 mediumapples(Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, peeled, cored, and sliced ¼-inch thick)
- 2 tbspgranulated sugar
- 1 tspground cinnamon(divided)
- 1 tbsplemon juice
- 1 cupold-fashioned rolled oats
- ½ cupall-purpose flour
- ½ cuppacked brown sugar
- ¼ tspground nutmeg
- ¼ tspsalt
- 6 tbspunsalted butter(cold, cut into small cubes)
Method
- 01
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly butter an 8×8-inch or similar 2-quart baking dish.
- 02
Toss the sliced 6 medium apples with the 2 tbsp granulated sugar, ½ tsp of the ground cinnamon, and 1 tbsp lemon juice until evenly coated.
- 03
Spread the apple mixture in an even layer in the prepared baking dish.
- 04
In a medium bowl, combine the 1 cup rolled oats, ½ cup all-purpose flour, ½ cup packed brown sugar, remaining ½ tsp ground cinnamon, ¼ tsp ground nutmeg, and ¼ tsp salt. Stir to mix.
- 05
Add the 6 tbsp cold butter cubes to the oat mixture. Use your fingertips to work the butter in until the mixture resembles coarse, clumpy crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter still visible.
- 06
Scatter the topping evenly over the apples, covering them completely edge to edge.
- 07
Bake for 40–45 minutes, until the topping is deep golden brown and the apple juices are bubbling up around the edges.
- 08
Let the crisp rest for at least 10 minutes before serving so the juices thicken slightly.
