Grimace Shake
A vivid purple vanilla-berry milkshake with a whipped cream crown — the viral McDonald's birthday shake, made at home in minutes.
Ingredients
- 3 cupsvanilla ice cream(about 4 large scoops)
- ½ cupwhole milk
- ½ cupfrozen blueberries
- ¼ cupfrozen blackberries
- 1 tspvanilla extract
- ½ cupheavy whipping cream(for topping)
- 1 tbsppowdered sugar(for whipped cream)
- 2 tbsppurple or violet sprinkles(optional, for garnish)
Method
- 01
Chill two tall glasses in the freezer for at least 5 minutes while you prep — a cold glass keeps the shake from melting too fast.
- 02
Add the ½ cup whole milk to the blender first; this protects the blade and helps the shake blend smoothly.
- 03
Add the 3 cups vanilla ice cream, ½ cup frozen blueberries, ¼ cup frozen blackberries, and 1 tsp vanilla extract to the blender.
- 04
Blend on high for 20–30 seconds until completely smooth and uniformly deep purple. Stop and scrape down the sides if needed, then blend for another 5 seconds.
- 05
Check consistency: the shake should be thick enough to mound slightly when poured. If too thick, add milk 1 tbsp at a time and pulse; if too thin, add another scoop of ice cream and blend briefly.
- 06
In a separate chilled bowl, whip the ½ cup heavy whipping cream and 1 tbsp powdered sugar with a hand mixer on medium-high until stiff peaks form, about 2 minutes.
- 07
Pour the shake evenly into the two chilled glasses, leaving about 1 inch of headspace for the whipped cream.
- 08
Pipe or spoon the whipped cream generously on top of each shake, then finish with the 2 tbsp purple or violet sprinkles if using. Serve immediately with a wide straw.
